I recently read a post via Slashdot that spoke about how eBooks on a tablet or other non-ebook dedicated device can lead to distracted reading and an inconsistent experience. Authors seem to want their readers to have their full attention when reading their books.

In today’s age of technology can this be expected? I look at my own children and see how they flit from one thing to another whether it be technological, or just playing outside on the swing set. Today’s lifestyle seems to be more “how much can I fit in to a day” rather than the quality of the day. I’m just as bad at this as anyone.

I didn’t want to go the ebook route for a number of years. Only in the last year have I actively started using the Amazon app on my Android phone (a Samsung Nexus; quite a nice phone by the way). I find it extremely convienent to have my “books” with me where ever I go. If I am ever in a long line, or waiting at the doctors office, I can pull out my phone and start reading. The convenience of not carrying a book is liberating. I stopped reading mostly until a year ago when eBooks crept into my daily activities.

Will I give up paper books? Nope. I want to become a patron of the arts and support authors like Scott Sigler, Mur Lafferty and other independent authors.

Backup your websites. Files and Database.

Keep your CMS software up-to-date.

I’ll have things back to normal shortly. I’m also changing the direction of this site slightly from a business only site to a general stopping place for everything me and the computer services I offer. Some people are finding it hard to spell my last name, Shattuck, and remember it. WillTheComputerGuy.com seems to be much easier to remember.
